Smilla: month 8
If I had to put a caption underneath month 8 it would be: L O V E & G R A T I T U D E.
Love for my baby. This month was relatively easy and I could accept the harder motherhood moments for what they are - fleeing moments; and instead embrace all the fun we have been having. And there has been a lot! Oma (German for grandmother) was visiting, my sister + husband and three little ones spent a week with us and then our dearest friends spent this past weekend with us. Smilla got to bathe in the tub with her little friend Elsa; she enjoyed Indian food; climbed dinosaurs at the local park; and generally mastered every new adventure with joy and bravery.
Love also for my husband and our little family. We managed to make room for family time, family naps and tons of family meals. The more the three of us spend time together the faster the love between us multiplies.
I have been feeling particularly grateful. We have been here for just a little over a year now and when I drive through town I see posters and advertisement for events, that we went to last year and it makes me feel so warm inside looking back on all those memories. For example, a baby flea market is coming up again, and when I saw the sign for it, I thought back on how I felt one year ago, with my growing belly and growing heart. These days, I think back a lot on my pregnancy and how wonderful and special this time was. I feel very grateful for that special time and of course for the beautiful daughter I got to welcome at the end of that chapter!
Speaking of welcoming, Smilla just welcomed a new cousin - little Abby Noelle - another thing to be grateful for.
And finally, I am very grateful for the changing seasons and the fall weather out!
In month 8 Smilla started walking around her crib and play pen, holding on to the side of it. Every waking moments she is "Working out", building those leg muscles, getting ready to take off. She has become quite the content player and has really enjoyed the few toys we have for her. Her interest in her sorroundings has no limits anymore and she is crawling everywhere, getting into baskets, emptying out bags, pulling herself up on furniture and not letting a few accidents here and there stop her. However, the cutest things of all; heart melting really; is the fact that if I pick her up and ask her for a kiss she will happily open her mouth as wide as she can, pull her tongue out, and smash her head forward until she locks in with my mouth! Kisses have never felt so sloppy and sweet!
What I have learned in month 8
Don't sit this baby down at the dinner table, unless I have her food ready, or she will loudly scream for it. Winter is coming and I don't have nearly enough stockings and wool socks for her. I either hide my belongings or I might as well put a sticker on it that says "Smilla's toy". This girl loves her Mozart and Debussy for chill-out sessions. And the most important thing I have learned - everything that is worth doing, is worth being done calmly.
